Faiths for Biodiversity is an international coalition of faith-based organisations mobilising and advocating for strong and ambitious action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.
These trees have been ordained.
Buddhist monks wrap saffron robes around old trees to make them sacred. Harming a robed tree is like harming a monk, so the forest is left standing.
In Thailand and Cambodia, whole forests have been protected this way.
Faith can protect nature. That is why we bring faith communities together for biodiversity.
Faiths for Biodiversity at COP17
Throughout the conference, in the Blue Zone in Yerevan, the Faith Hub brings faith leaders, Indigenous Peoples, scientists, youth and negotiators together around one question: how to deliver the Global Biodiversity Framework in the places people live, worship and care for.

Uniting for Nature
Faiths at the forefront of Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) implementation
Launched at CBD COP16, and now focused on implementing the GBF, this report showcases the work faith-based organisations are doing around the world to restore degraded ecosystems, protect biodiversity and engage their communities in caring for nature.
Our purpose
Formed in the lead-up to CBD COP15, the coalition was established to:
- 01Advocate for, monitor and track the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
- 02Offer a space for faith-based organisations, conservation groups and other civil society organisations to network and jointly advocate for biodiversity at key international moments
- 03Direct members to resources on faith and conservation
- 04Increase faith-based organisations’ understanding of biodiversity concerns
